The Muslim Brotherhood: whispering in Western ears

In his latest article, published in Al-Ahram Weekly, Haitham Abdelsamad (IISES Secretary-General) raises the question as to why the dominant Western media narrative on Egypt seems to be negative and far from balanced. While most explanations tend to repeat conspiratory arguments of the West plotting against Arab countries, this article argues that such viewpoints merely strengthen anti-Western sentiments and weaken global dialogue. Abdelsamad argues that the Muslim Brotherhood's influence in the West is overlooked and might explain a significant part as to why media reports on Egypt tend to be defaming. This needs to be addressed, because it represents an obstacle for dialogue between Egypt and Western countries.
